Diplomatic Genius Goryeo, published by Gimyoungsa, explores how the Goryeo dynasty protected its sovereignty through sophisticated diplomacy among powerful neighboring states such as the Khitan, Song, Jin, and Mongol empires. In this project, I was responsible for creating the illustrated maps used throughout the book to support readers’ understanding of complex historical and geopolitical contexts.
My focus was not only on depicting geography, but on visually organizing diplomatic relationships, territorial changes, and the flow of major historical events. By transforming intricate political situations into intuitive, map-based visuals, I aimed to help readers grasp Goryeo’s diplomatic history more clearly and engage with the narrative through spatial understanding, enhancing both clarity and immersion.
